Choose this route when the silicone item is the tool you will later fill with resin, wax, plaster, soap, chocolate, gummy, water, batter or another compatible material.

The important decisions are the cavity, release path, split/core structure, support and the casting process.

A Finished Silicone Product

If the product itself is silicone, the project may fit HCR/HTV compression molding, LSR injection molding or another molded-silicone route.

Silicone on an Insert or Substrate

If silicone must be retained on plastic, metal or another compatible insert, the DFM needs to address retention, interface geometry and the actual molding route.

You Can Start Before Final CAD Exists

Production-ready CAD is useful, but it is not the only acceptable starting point.

Depending on the project, you can send:

  • STEP/STP;
  • STL or mesh files;
  • 2D drawings;
  • a physical sample;
  • a sketch with key dimensions;
  • clear photos with measurements.

If the project must fit an existing component, sending the real mating sample can reduce the risk of designing to approximate dimensions.

If RUUIPON must create or revise geometry, the scope and approval file should be clear before tooling begins.

DFM Before Tooling

A useful DFM review should identify the decisions that can cause a prototype or production failure.

Depending on the project, those can include:

  • trapped undercuts;
  • parting-line location;
  • fragile text or logo features;
  • wall/support design;
  • cavity layout;
  • filled tray weight;
  • insert retention;
  • equipment pitch;
  • fit to another component;
  • cleaning or use conditions;
  • food-contact document requirements.

The goal is not to add more engineering language to the quotation. The goal is to remove avoidable ambiguity before money is committed to tooling or repeated production.

Prototype With a Defined Question

A prototype is valuable only when everyone knows what it must prove.

Examples:

  • Does the mold release the actual casting without damage?
  • Does the cavity produce the target piece weight with the real formula?
  • Does a lid or gasket fit the real mating component?
  • Is the logo readable at production size?
  • Does a large tray remain practical when filled?
  • Is an overmolded insert retained as required?

A sample that “looks good” is not the same as a sample that has passed the project’s critical requirements.

Yes, an initial review can start from photos, sketches or a physical sample. Whether CAD/modeling is required before tooling depends on the project.

Do we need to know whether the project is RTV, HCR/HTV or LSR?

No. Describe what you need to receive, the material/use and expected quantity. Process selection can follow the DFM review.

Can we sign an NDA before sending the full design?

If confidentiality is required, state that before sending sensitive files so the agreement path can be addressed first.

Does paying for design or tooling automatically define CAD or tooling ownership?

No. CAD deliverables, physical master/tool custody, ownership, exclusivity and transfer rights should be defined in the quotation or agreement when they matter.

Applicable RTV mold projects can start at 20 production molds per approved design. Drawings, photographs, CAD files and buyer-owned samples can be reviewed before the process is confirmed.

RUUIPON is not presented as the right supplier for every silicone purchase. A standard retail mold required immediately from local inventory is usually better bought from a local stockist. A one-off prototype should not be described as a production MOQ of one. High-volume LSR cold-runner tooling and finished HCR/HTV products require a separate engineering and quantity review.
