RTV Silicone Mold Manufacturing

Use this route when the silicone item is a flexible mold that will later be filled with another material.

Applications can include:

  • gummy;
  • chocolate;
  • resin;
  • plaster;
  • wax;
  • soap;
  • baking;
  • ice;
  • other compatible casting materials.

Possible mold structures:

  • one-piece;
  • slit;
  • two-part;
  • plug/core;
  • support shell;
  • multi-cavity tray.

The mold structure should follow the release path and casting workflow.

HCR/HTV Compression Molding

Use this route when the finished item itself is a compression-molded silicone product/component.

Project inputs can include:

  • part CAD;
  • material/hardness;
  • color;
  • tolerance/CTQ;
  • surface/branding;
  • tooling requirements;
  • production quantity;
  • inspection/packaging.

HCR/HTV tooling, unit price and timing differ from RTV mold manufacturing and are quoted separately.

HCR/HTV Tooling

Where a compression-molded product requires metal tooling, define:

  • approved part geometry;
  • parting strategy;
  • cavity count;
  • material;
  • expected volume;
  • dimensional/visual requirements;
  • mold ownership/custody terms where relevant.

Do not mix the terminology for an RTV casting master with compression tooling.

LSR Injection Molding

LSR may suit finished silicone components requiring an injection-molding route.

Project review can include:

  • part geometry;
  • LSR material requirement;
  • tooling concept;
  • parting/gate/ejection considerations;
  • inserts where relevant;
  • production volume;
  • inspection.

LSR should not be described as outside RUUIPON's legitimate project scope.

Silicone Overmolding / Insert Molding

For silicone combined with plastic, metal or another compatible insert/substrate, define:

  • insert material;
  • insert CAD/sample;
  • mechanical retention;
  • bond requirement where applicable;
  • interface geometry;
  • critical dimensions;
  • functional test;
  • assembly/use condition.

The overmold cannot be designed accurately without understanding the real insert.
