Start with the candle you want to sell

Identify the presentation face, logo and details that matter to the finished candle. Include the back and underside: features hidden in a front photograph can determine whether the mold needs an opening, split or removable component.

If a target candle weight matters, share it alongside dimensions and wax information. Final weight should be checked with the intended wax rather than inferred from shape alone.

Choose the mold structure around release

These are design options, not promises that every shape can use every structure. The decision depends on the complete geometry, wax behavior and handling method.

Agree the seam before tooling

Mark the cosmetic face and any areas where a seam is unacceptable. Rear edges, folds or texture valleys may offer less prominent seam locations, depending on the design. A split candle mold still needs an agreed seam and finishing standard; it should not be described as universally seamless.

Confirm how the mold closes and aligns. Prototype inspection should include seam visibility and any finishing work required on the actual wax casting. See candle seam and sticking checks.

Design wick access and support together

Specify wick position, installation method and relevant wick or pin dimensions. Review sealing, threading and strain around the opening. A wick feature that works once must also suit the intended repeated handling method.

Tall or detailed molds may need an outer sleeve, shell or other support while filled. Increasing silicone hardness is not a universal solution because it can also increase release force. Assess filled stability and demolding together.

Validate with the intended wax

Share the wax blend, additives and available pouring and release conditions. Paraffin, soy blends and other wax systems can behave differently during cooling and demolding. Do not apply one temperature, shrinkage figure or hardness recommendation to all projects.

Where a test pour is requested, agree who supplies the wax and which checks are included. Review fill, surface, wick setup, seam, closure, support and release of fragile details. Confirm the approved design before repeating molds for production.

Applicable custom RTV production has a standard MOQ of 20 molds per design. Prototype arrangements, modeling fees, tooling, support, test pours, unit price, lead time and shipping are confirmed in the project quotation.

Send:

CAD/STL, a drawing, sample details or multiple reference views;
finished dimensions, target weight if relevant and wax blend;
logo, texture and fragile details;
preferred seam and presentation face;
wick position and installation method;
mold quantity, test-pour request, destination and target date.

Candle mold questions

Does every sculptural candle need a two-part mold?

No. The structure depends on undercuts, release direction and detail. Review the entire shape before selecting a one-piece, slit, split or plug design.

Can the mold include wick access?

Request the required position and installation method. The feature must be reviewed for sealing, repeated handling and local tear risk.

Can you develop a mold from photos?

Multiple views and a reliable dimension can support an initial review. Additional measurements or a sample may be needed for accurate modeling. Confirm scope and deliverables before paid design work.
