RTV Mold RFQ Checklist You Can Copy

If you're quoting a custom RTV silicone mold, don't send name/email/application and wait for a blank price. Copy the checklist below, paste it into email or WhatsApp, and attach photos, a sketch, a sample, or CAD. A number from a three-field form is a guess built into the rubber. Common mix-up: a thin web form is an RFQ

Name, work email, and "application = gummy" is how you get a number you can't use. Two shops will assume different grams, different splits, and different cert packs. The checklist above is the RFQ. Quote page: custom mold quote. Cost drivers: mold cost.

What happens after a complete pack

• Structure call: open-back vs keyed split vs plug vs jacket.
• DFM mark-up if the STL cannot leave - DFM review.
• CAD lock, then 3-7 day prototype.
• Written pass/fail, then MOQ 20.

A pretty STL with silent units does not start a serious clock.

Typical shop values

Reference values only. Confirm material-specific limits against the supplier’s technical data and agree project acceptance criteria before production.

Failure: two prices, two objects

Symptom: One PI is an RTV jacket; the other is an LSR cold-runner; purchasing files them as "mold cost." Or food docs billed later because the RFQ said "FDA."

Confirm: Line-item 3D ($50 when in scope), master, rubber, split, jacket, sampling, recast, certs, Incoterm.

Fix: Re-quote the same object with this checklist. Don't accept a lump "mold" number.

Worked example: 8-cavity bar, chocolate, food-contact

Buyer sent STEP, 120 × 60 × 12 mm, recessed brand 0.4 mm, tempered chocolate, ~500 pours/month, US+EU docs, jacket undecided. Complete RFQ let us name keyed two-piece plus jacket, freeze logo depth, prototype 3-7 days after lock, then MOQ 20. A name/email/"chocolate mold" form would have guessed the split and the cert pack.

What to ask when you're sending an RFQ

• Can two suppliers fill this same block so the numbers compare?
• Which lines are still "you specify"?
• Is the object an RTV cavity or an HTV product or mold RFQ here, or a high-volume LSR *part* tool - ask us?
• Who keeps master, jacket, and CAD after the tooling charge?
• Food: 177.2600, LFGB, both, or craft-only - on this recast?

When this checklist is the wrong form

If you need thousands of vulcanized silicone *parts* or a steel gummy *part* tool, don't fill this RTV block - open an HTV product or mold RFQ here, or ask us if you need a high-volume LSR cold-runner tool. If you're buying a catalog ice sheet that already matches, you don't need seven sections. Geometry can override quantity: a one-off resin hook still needs split and keys filled in.

Skip quoting from three fields

Skip treating "FDA" as a checkbox without naming 177.2600 vs LFGB on this article. Silent STL units make two PIs diverge. EXW and DDP are not the same number. A tooling charge is not unrestricted CAD ownership.

Is this different from the contact form? The form logs the job. This checklist is what we quote from. Fill both; don't skip pour, size, qty, or the food-doc path.

Do I need every line? Unknown is fine if you write "you specify." Deleting a line is how two PIs diverge.

Does a complete RFQ get a 24-hour number? A complete pack gets a structure call, not a fake-precise unit price on missing grams. Timing depends on files, not a slogan.

Is 3D always $50? USD $50 when that custom/simple modeling scope applies. Complex reverse-engineering is scoped first.
