Silicone Mold & Product DFM Review Before Tooling
RUUIPON’s DFM review checks whether the proposed geometry and manufacturing route are practical before tooling or master production begins.
Depending on the project, the review may cover an RTV casting mold, HCR/HTV compression-molded silicone part, LSR component or overmolded assembly.
DFM review is an engineering feasibility check. Chargeable CAD/modeling is separate when geometry must be created or revised.
Identify the Correct Manufacturing Route

DFM should first clarify what is being manufactured.
Possible routes:
- RTV silicone casting mold
- HCR/HTV compression-molded product
- HCR/HTV metal tooling
- LSR injection-molded part
- silicone overmolding / insert molding
If the route is uncertain, explain the end product, material and volume.
Define How the Geometry Will Be Made and Released
Depending on the route, review can identify:
- one-piece open mold
- planned slit
- two-part mold
- removable plug/core
- support shell
- compression tool
- injection tool
- insert strategy
The output should describe the structure clearly enough to quote the correct tooling.
Mark the Features That Create Manufacturing Risk
Review can cover:
- undercuts
- return geometry
- thin local sections
- sharp transitions
- trapped pockets
- draft/release
- parting lines
- sealing/fit surfaces
- logo/text detail
- insert geometry
Do not use one generic Shore or wall-thickness rule as the DFM conclusion.
DFM may require the buyer to confirm:
- casting material
- silicone grade/hardness if specified
- food-contact requirement
- operating temperature
- chemical exposure
- production quantity
- equipment interface
- insert/substrate
- cosmetic requirements
Decide What the Prototype Must Prove
Examples:
- dimensions
- fit
- release
- cavity weight/volume
- surface
- logo/detail
- support
- hardness
- assembly
- sealing/function
- insert retention
A prototype should answer the highest-risk questions before production quantity is repeated.
Free Feasibility Review Is Not the Same as Creating New CAD
Initial DFM can be free.
If geometry must be created or revised, confirm the modeling scope before paid work begins.
Simple 3D modeling is typically around USD 50 when the scope is straightforward. Complex reverse engineering or sculpting is quoted separately.

- STEP/STP, STL, drawing or sample
- what you need to receive
- end-use/application
- material/process if known
- critical dimensions
- quantity
- target market/doc requirements
- target date
Depending on project complexity, the response may include:
- process recommendation
- annotated screenshots/drawings
- marked undercuts/parting lines
- missing-input list
- proposed mold/tool structure
- prototype validation points
- CAD-change scope
Do not promise a formal engineering report if the actual review is an annotated project response.
Is DFM free?
The initial manufacturability review is free. New CAD/modeling may be chargeable.
Can you review HCR/HTV and LSR parts?
Yes. RUUIPON’s DFM scope is not limited to RTV molds.
Does DFM guarantee the final product?
No. DFM reduces known manufacturing risk; prototype/tool validation is still required.

Can you recommend Shore A hardness from the drawing?
A preliminary range may be possible, but final selection should consider geometry, mold span, undercuts, filled weight, support, demolding and the selected silicone formulation.
We have a real physical sample. Is that better than concept dimensions?
For fit-critical projects, yes. The physical sample can resolve edge, opening, curvature and tolerance details that may be missing from a concept drawing.
Can one design use interchangeable inserts?
Sometimes. Modular/interchangeable inserts can reduce duplicated tooling when the common base and changing features are suitable for the process.
Can we approve a render before you make the mold?
Yes. For new 3D development, render/CAD approval should happen before tooling/master work.
Should we test one sample before a large order?
Yes. The prototype should answer the critical fit, function, demolding, material or cavity-volume questions before production.
