Silicone molds for architectural casting: large panels, recast skin
Architectural casting is a handling problem before it is a Shore problem. A cladding panel, cornice, or column wrap can be tens of kilograms wet. An unsupported RTV skin balloons, operators cannot flip it, and texture washes after a few abrasive pours if you never planned a recast. Don't quote a solid silicone brick "so it's strong." The rubber copies texture; a rigid mother mold carries the load; keys keep the jacket from walking. RUUIPON pours jacketed platinum RTV skins in Bao'an since 2018: resin master to RTV casting mold. Prototype in 3-7 business days after CAD lock - often a representative section, not a full 2 m panel on the first pour. MOQ 20 pcs/design. Concrete/gypsum chemistry: concrete, cement-gypsum, plaster. Mother mold: support shell.

Section first, then multiply
Send panel L x W x thickness, filled wet kg, mix and max aggregate, texture target, seam location the architect will live with, how two operators will open the jacket, and whether a recast of the skin is in the price. A 2 m cornice may start as a 400 mm section prototype. Don't freeze a full-length tool until the section peels and the jacket keys still seat.
Split the jacket on the same logic as the rubber. A unique key so halves cannot swap. See split lines. Unsupported sag about 0.5-1.5 mm is the tray-scale tell; a deep panel is worse.
Recast is maintenance, not failure
Abrasive mix wears letters. Keep the unsanded master. Paying NRE is not unrestricted ownership unless the PO says who keeps master and jacket.
When this architectural advice does not apply
A 100 mm sample tile is the concrete/plaster slug. Steel or plastic production forms may be the right rigid path. LSR *parts* → ask us. Geometry can override quantity: one giant panel still needs a jacket. Hollow planters: planters.
If you only have photos, custom 3D modeling is USD $50 when that scope applies.
Architectural RFQ to copy
- Mix and wet kg of the full panel
- Section vs full length for prototype
- Texture; seam zones the architect forbids
- Jacket material; key style; lift/handling
- Recast of RTV skin: included or extra
- Who keeps master and jacket
- Custom 3D modeling: USD $50 when that scope applies
- Prototype section, then MOQ 20 pcs/design

Matched CTA: Send panel size, wet kg, and whether you need a section prototype before full-length tooling - not a generic free quote.
We would not recommend a giant solid RTV block for a cladding panel
We would not recommend skipping the jacket because "silicone is strong." We would not raise Shore A first to hold a cornice. We would not recast from a worn, bellied skin. We would not treat tooling charge as unrestricted master ownership. We would not quote LSR steel for a cement dump.
RUUIPON Mold Structure Decision: section prototype if the panel is huge. Open-back if it peels. Wrap or column? split keys. Wet kilograms? mother mold. Worn texture? recast against the unsanded master.
- Full length or section first? - CAD still moving / huge -> Section prototype
- Full length or section first? - geometry frozen -> Open-back peel?
- Section prototype -> Open-back peel?
- Open-back peel? - yes -> Jacketed open-back skin
- Open-back peel? - wrap / column -> Keyed split + jacket split
- Jacketed open-back skin -> Operators can lift?
- Keyed split + jacket split -> Operators can lift?
- Operators can lift? - no -> Lighter skin, more jacket, or smaller modules
- Operators can lift? - yes -> Full-weight pour; recast plan
- Lighter skin, more jacket, or smaller modules -> Full-weight pour; recast plan
Typical shop values
Reference values only. Confirm material-specific limits against the supplier’s technical data and agree project acceptance criteria before production.
| Item | Typical shop value |
|---|---|
| MOQ | 20 pcs/design after sample approval |
| Custom 3D modeling | USD $50 when that scope applies |
| Prototype | 3-7 business days after CAD lock (often a section) |
| Mix | Platinum 1:1 or 10:1; vacuum degas |
| Cavity Shore | 10A-20A platinum skin; jacket carries load |
| Platinum shrink | About 0.1-0.3% after full cure |
| Loaded-edge sag without a jacket | About 0.5-1.5 mm; worse on a deep panel |
| Recast | Budget against the unsanded master after abrasive wear |
FAQ
Do we prototype the full 2 m panel? Often a representative section first. Full-length after the peel and keys work.
Can the jacket be GRP instead of plaster? Yes if that's the handling you need. Name it. Keys on both rubber and jacket.
Who owns the master? Only if the PO says so. Write who keeps master, jacket, and whether recast is included.
Will stone texture last 500 pours? Abrasive mix wears letters. Plan recast. We don't invent a cycle count.
Is this a food-grade mold? No. Architectural cement/gypsum is not a 177.2600 path.
