When you sell a branded chocolate bar, the mold is a cavity-volume problem and a snap-line problem - not a catalog polycarbonate tray with a PNG pasted on. If the finished bar must weigh about 40 g, we size the pocket from volume times cocoa-butter density, then set logo stroke, depth, and draft so tempered chocolate fills and peels. Deep relief traps chocolate; hairline serifs starve. A snap groove that breaks on demold instead of in the wrapper is a failed first article. Start from bar grams, not a screenshot of someone else's SKU

Send target piece weight, chocolate type (dark / milk / compound), finished L x W x H, outlined logo with raised-or-recessed and depth, cavity count, tray size, and whether you cool on a table or in a tunnel. Guessing volume from a PNG is how the 40 g pack label misses. Weigh center and outer-row bars on the prototype - a loaded sheet without a jacket can sag about 0.5-1.5 mm at the edge, so outer-row bars run heavy.

Gloss vs matte lives on the master. Sanding the master "to clean it up" after you like the first temper is how you lose the face you approved. Recast against the unsanded master if a skin tears.

Snap lines and thin walls are DFM, not a later knife

If the bar is meant to break into squares, the groove has to survive demold and still snap in the wrapper. Too deep and the bar chips on peel; too shallow and it never breaks where the artwork says. Thin walls at a logo island fail the same way. We fillet roots and add draft while keeping the identity. Hairlines belong in print - see custom logo silicone molds.

Food-contact platinum, fatty extraction

Chocolate is fatty contact. Name US / EU / both at RFQ so 21 CFR 177.2600 (n-hexane leg) and LFGB/BfR XV-related docs match the compound and color you will buy. A natural plaque is not your brown production tray. Tin-cure is the wrong food start. Steel or LSR parts that look like bars are a different quote at wydsilicone.com.

When this bar-mold advice does not apply

Commercial high-gloss bars sometimes belong in polycarbonate - say so if mirror PC is the line standard. A one-off showpiece can skip multi-cavity and a jacket. A hollow bomb is not this page. Geometry can override quantity: a locked undercut letter still needs draft or a split at 80 pours.

We would not recommend guessing a 40 g pocket from a PNG

We would not recommend a deep undrafted logo that chips on peel. We would not raise Shore A first to hide a sagging sheet. We would not call 177.2600 an FDA-approved factory. We would not treat an RTV bar tray as proof an LSR steel cavity will dump cocoa butter.

Will a deeper logo look more premium on a bar? Only if it fills and releases. Too deep traps tempered chocolate and chips thin islands. We review stroke, depth, and draft on the master before pour.

Do you FDA-approve the factory for chocolate bars? No. 21 CFR 177.2600 tests the finished rubber article. Ask for extraction/docs on the compound and color you will buy, matched to fatty-food use.

Should snap grooves be as deep as the artwork shows? Not if they break on demold. The groove has to survive peel and still snap in the wrapper. That's a first-article test, not a CAD guess.
