When Does a CAD or 3D Modeling Fee Apply to a Silicone Mold Project?

If you already provide production-ready CAD, no new 3D modeling may be required.

If the project starts from artwork, photos, a sketch or a physical sample, the supplier may need to create or modify geometry before a master or production tool can be made.

For straightforward projects, RUUIPON’s simple 3D modeling is typically around USD 50 when that scope applies. Complex reverse engineering, sculpting or multi-part development is quoted separately.

• file is suitable for the selected process
• no significant DFM geometry change required

The file still needs DFM review before tooling.

CAD/3D modeling:

Creates or modifies the geometry.

• input files/reference
• design objective
• expected deliverable
• file format
• included revision scope
• critical dimensions
• approval process
• ownership/release terms if important

Payment of a modeling fee does not automatically answer every ownership question.

If native CAD transfer, exclusivity, master custody or transfer to another supplier matters, define it in the quotation/PO/NDA.

Why do I need to pay for 3D modeling if I already sent photos?

Photos show appearance but usually do not define complete production geometry. If no usable CAD exists, someone must create the three-dimensional model and confirm dimensions before a master/tool can be made.

Can I review the 3D render before the mold is made?

Yes. For modeling projects, the final CAD/render should be approved before mold production.
