Custom Silicone Mold Packaging: Flat Trays, Not Folded Skins
Pack RTV trays flat or nested, never folded. Name EXW, FOB or DDP with jacket size. A crease in a depositor tray is a rejected tool. MOQ 20.
Packaging is how the approved RTV mold survives the ocean, not a carton afterthought. If you're shipping a flexible tray or a keyed mother-mold set from Shenzhen, design the pack so cavities don't fold, crush, or take a permanent set, and so the rigid shell doesn't punch the skin. Saving volume by rolling a production gummy sheet is how you buy a second tool. Name EXW, FOB, or DDP - plus destination - on the RFQ, because those are different commercial objects.

How a flexible mold actually fails in a box
- Fold / crease: a large 10A-20A tray doubled over takes a set. Outer-row grams then drift.
- Cavity crush: heavy goods stacked on the pocket face print a bruise.
- Skin vs shell shift: a mother mold that rattles knocks keys.
- Heat in a dark container: stacked soft rubber plus heat makes set worse.
- Paperwork mismatch: buyer compared EXW to DDP and thought one factory was cheaper.
A tiny open-back logo stamp can ride in a bag. A 48-cavity depositor tray cannot.
Common mix-up: freight class decided after the mold is frozen
A 600 mm jacket that won't fit the buyer's door should have been a split-shell decision at DFM. Don't freeze a one-piece mother mold, then ask us to "just fold the silicone." See mother mold.
Shop packing rules we actually use
- Production food trays: flat, cavity protected, not rolled. Nested only if the nest cannot print into a pocket.
- Split skins: halves closed on their keys, or interleaved so the shut isn't raw on raw.
- Mother molds: shell supported so it cannot rack; skin seated when that protects the keys.
- Masters (if returned): rigid, separate from wet-mass jackets, labeled so they aren't dunnage.
- Marks: revision, cavity count, food vs craft, "do not fold."

Failure: arrived folded, then "it will relax"
Symptom: Corner crease on a 10A sheet; keys nicked; jacket cracked; buyer thought DDP was included.
Confirm: Photograph the pack as opened. Check "do not fold" marks. Compare Incoterm on the PI.
Fix: Recast if the set is permanent. Rebuild packing for the next lot. Don't iron a crease into a cavity.
Worked example: 20 × 48-cavity pectin trays, DDP to US
MOQ 20 sheets, each jacketed. Pack: flat cartons, cavity face protected, jackets seated, "do not fold" on every carton, DDP named on the RFQ - not compared to an EXW number from another shop. Rolling the skins to save a cubic metre would have shown up as 3-6% outer-row drift on restock.
What to ask when you're buying packing
- Flat or nested - and can the nest print into a pocket?
- Does the jacket ship in the same crate, seated on its keys?
- EXW, FOB, or DDP - written, not assumed?
- Outer carton size vs the receiving door?
- Master returned in the same shipment or held for recast?
When this page is the wrong route
A 6-cavity stamp in a padded envelope doesn't need a crate spec. LSR steel tools are a WYD packing conversation. Geometry can override quantity: two mother-mold planters still need rigid shell support.

We would not recommend rolling a production tray to save freight
We would not recommend comparing EXW to DDP as quality. We would not recommend freezing a jacket that cannot enter the building. We would not recommend stacking cartons on cavity faces. We would not recommend returning an unmarked master as dunnage.

Can you vacuum-bag and roll trays? Not production depositor sheets. Crease = grams drift. Tiny stamps are the exception.
Is packing included? Ask for it as a line. Export crate vs domestic carton is not the same SKU.
Who books the freight? Whatever Incoterm you name. Don't assume DDP.
Will plaster jackets survive the ocean? Often no. Name resin/FRP or printed jackets for export.
